The SNV Ghana (GrEEn) project Innovation Challenge is a yearly competition aimed at supporting SMEs and businesses that have outstanding, innovative green ideas. The Challenge forms part of GrEEn’s objective of supporting entrepreneurs and green SMEs to increase their operations. For its 2021 edition, Twelve SMEs were awarded the matching grant, which was to be awarded as co-investments through a competitive process across the Ashanti and Western Regions of Ghana.
Out of the Twelve(12) winners, Recycle Up! Ghana was able to have Four (4) of its SMEs winning an accumulated amount of GH 310,000.00 which is a little bit over $50,000.00 as investments for their businesses.
The SMEs were taken through an intense 6-month business incubation training to adequately prepare them for the investor market, and it comes as no surprise that they have been able to achieve such successes immediately after their training. The businesses; Recycling field Ghana, Eye of the brain Eco-feeds, Ofnet Farms and Rural Green recycling were awarded at the Green Innovation Challenge ceremony in Accra.
In attendance was the country director of SNV Ghana Mr Anjo Van Toorn and the Head of the European Union Delegation to Ghana Ambassador Irchad Ramiandrasoa Razaaly.
The GrEEn Innovation Challenge is part of the Boosting Green Employment and Enterprise Opportunities in Ghana (GrEEn) project, a four-year action primarily funded by the European Union, together with the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Ghana, SNV Netherlands Development Organization and the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF).
